The
Centro Universitário Ibero-Americano - UNIBERO - is organizing
the 3rd CONGRESSO IBERO-AMERICANO DE TRADUÇÃO
E INTERPRETAÇÃO - III CIATI, focusing on the theme
New Times, an Old Art: Translation, Technology, Talent
, to be held 10-13 May 2004 in São Paulo, Brazil.

Participation
is open to translators, interpreters, teachers, students, publishers,
and all those who are in any way interested in translation and
interpreting in their broadest sense, both in theoretical and
practical terms.
We hope that this conference in São Paulo, one of Latin
Americas most important cities, will be an opportunity
for diverse local and international issues to be discussed in
an open and fruitful way and where all participants can obtain
a more comprehensive understanding of Translation Studies in
the new millennium.

The
program consists of plenary sessions, lectures, panel discussions,
mini-courses and papers. From the list of topics provided participants
should select the one which most accurately describes the content
of their papers.

Sessions
will last for a maximum of 30 minutes. We suggest speakers leave
approximately 10 minutes for questions. Abstracts (200 -250 words)
on the topics provided are to be submitted in Portuguese, Spanish
or English. They should contain: the authors name, institutional
affiliation, country, title of the paper and the topic number

Deadlines:
October 31, 2003 - deadline for submission of papers
December 10, 2003 - confirmation of the acceptance of abstracts
February 1, 2004 - deadline for submission of final abstracts

São
Paulo, the host city
The city of São Paulo, with an area of 1,516 square kilometers,
is located approximately 750 meters above sea level. Its climate
is subtropical with average annual temperatures ranging between
13.4º and 24.1º C. In May it is usually sunny with occasional
showers and mild temperatures. Our winter begins in June. No matter
where you are coming from, youd better bring along a pullover,
a light coat and an umbrella (just in case!)
Passports
and Visas
Entry visas are required for citizens of some countries. Please
check regulations with your travel agency.
Bank
Services and Credit Cards
The official currency in Brazil is the Real (R$), which is worth
approximately US$ 0.34 (April rate). Exchange facilities are available
at airports, some hotels, some banks and some travel agencies.
Major credit cards are accepted in most restaurants, hotels, shopping
malls and stores. |
